ActivelyFUN

ActivelyFUN is our exciting children’s class designed to teach children Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS).

Sometimes learning sports skills in competitive environments can be hard, and leaves some children feeling under a lot of pressure.

Here at ActivelyFun, children can learn sports skills in a fun, welcoming environment, and experience many different skills and sports - perfect for children who want to be active with no competitive pressure!

To book your place just give us a call, an email, or drop into us here in the centre. We will take a few moments to register your child(ren)'s details, then offer you the classes that we have available. It's that simple!

  • ActivelyFUN has been designed with the assistance of primary school teachers, athletic therapists, and early years educators to be a weekly supplement to the school PE curriculum.

Keeping kids active is one of the most important steps we can take to help children build a healthy lifestyle for now and the future.

Children who stay active are shown to have better health outcomes overall, and reduced rates of chronic health conditions such as obesity and diabetes.

They are also more likely to stay active in a sport throughout childhood and into their teens and adulthood, essential for lifelong, healthy lifestyles.

  • This programme is designed for children to practice fundamental movement skills and play multiple sports in an environment focused on participation and fun over competition over a 12-week term. Perfect for those looking for something different, looking to try new sports, or just have fun without the stress of competition!

Our youngest groups learn the skill of the day, then practice this skills in a variety of games and sports.

Our older groups revise the skill of the day, have a short practice time, then get a chance to use that skill in a matching sport.

This mixture of skill learning, practice, and then utilisation in a live, dynamic environment is the perfect chance to develop fundamental movement skills through play, fun, and sport, perhaps even trying out some new sports while you’re at it!

Children of all skills and abilities are welcome!

The course has been carefully developed in conjunction with primary school teachers, early years professionals, and certified athletic therapists to be a comprehensive and well-rounded programme.

  • Fundamental Movement Skills are vitally important basic skills that contribute to the development of a physically literate child.

A physically literate child is one who has the movement competence, confidence, and understanding to continue in physical activity throughout their lives.

Fundamental movements skills are broken down into key 3 areas:

    • Locomotion - walking, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, dodging, sidestepping

    • Stability - landing, balance, rolling

    • Manipulative skills - catching, throwing, kicking, striking with a hand, striking with an implement

These 3 key areas, and their associated skills, are essential to successful participation in athletics, dance, games, gymnastics, and outdoor and adventure skills.

  • Research shows that over 70% of boys, and over 80% of girls, will not have mastered their fundamental movements skills by the age of 9!

Mastery of these skills has been shown to lead to increased retention in sports in adolescents, and increased activity levels in adulthood.

Despite the best efforts of PE teachers all over the country, there is just not enough PE time for children to fully develop these skills. This programme will supplement the school PE curriculum, improving children’s physical literacy skills, and enhancing their fundamental movement skills.

Our goal is provide kids with the opportunities to develop these areas in a fun, dynamic, environment, helping children to become confident, movement literate adults, who are capable of participating in whatever sports or exercise they choose to follow.
